Workshop
with Khaldoun 8/1/07
The Exhibition is overwhelmingly
large and inspiring. There was a lot of work
which inspired us to produce our own work in
response – both similar and different work.
Faces appear in the painting at weird angles and
in part only.
The Workshop
The activity began with a small piece of
cardboard packaging. This was torn and cut into
an irregular shape. This brown card had some
yellow and some blue paint on it.
Karen: We took it in turns to work with
Khaldoun on our pieces. I didn’t like working
unplanned, not knowing what I was doing. As I
worked, I got into it and found it a worthwhile,
enjoyable experience. I liked the freedom of
using my fingers to paint, rather than a
paintbrush.
Steve: It was intimidating working so
publicly. I liked having the paint on my finger
to work with, but was frustrated by having one
colour at a time. I got to quite liking Khaldoun
putting the paint on my piece almost randomly
(but not quite). This was also a challenge
because I wanted to choose the next colour and I
also wanted more paint on the piece than he gave
me.
The Evaluation
The group agreed to put certain pieces together.
Karen Pryce’s piece and Steve Hrynczek’s pieces
became a single one. The pieces have similar
paint marks and the cardboard also “fits”
together in terms of shape.
