Art Trip by
James Lind Yr11
We went to the Emirates Palace
Hotel for an afternoon on a school art trip. We
met a famous artist called Khaldoun who came
from Jordon. Most of his work was done by using
his imagination and experimentation.
Most of us did not know what to think when he
showed us his work. He used very dull colours
but over the dark colours he added a bright red
to show what is happening in his work.
I thought his work was confusing to begin with,
but after he told us what was happening I could
see why he did the things he did, if he had not
talked about or explained his ideas then I would
have come away confused for sure!
We went into the gardens of Emirates Palace and
did some experimental painting ourselves. We
used a piece of cardboard. First, Khaldoon
slopped a dollop of black paint onto the
cardboard and told us to express ourselves
through the paint and making marks on the
surface of the cardboard. I enjoyed this very
much. When we had completed the painting using
black, he then added some red paint, to give the
painting ‘energy’.
Overall, it was an interesting experience and
one I will remember. I am not yet sure how I
will incorporate the experience into my own
work.
