Kelsie Irvine Yr 10
We went on a field trip to the Emirates
Palace Hotel to meet an artist and look at his
work and the work of at least 16 other artists
from his gallery in Jordan. The exhibition was
called ‘Colour Dialogue’ and it was from the
Rowaq Al Balqa Gallery.
I arrived later than the others, so when I got
there it was in the middle of the Egyptian
ambassadors’ visit and a photo shoot.
We were introduced to an artist called Sana. She
was also Jordanian. She took us to look at her
paintings and talked about the pain and pleasure
of making them and how the whole series were
influenced by words conveying emotion. She
talked about how everyone interprets paintings
differently, especially abstract painting like
hers. But she also said there was no right or
wrong interpretations.
As an example, she asked one girl what emotion
she felt when she looked at the picture and she
said ‘sadness.’ Sana then asked me, and I said
‘hope.’
Afterwards, we looked around the exhibition and
chose our favourite paintings. We had our photo
taken as a small group and then each of us took
a photo of a detail of the painting. Khaldoun
then talked us through one of his pieces of art.
He let some of us change the composition of it
to portray different things.
After looking at the exhibition, we went to the
beach and did some painting with our hands. We
use only two colours and attempted to make it
look like a different picture when we rotated
it. When we had completed our paintings we laid
them out together and put a cardboard border
around them. We also chose a shell from the
beach and wrote our names in the sand.
I though Khaldoun was an interesting man who had
many creative ideas.
